Logging hours
Does my placement year count towards the 50 hours of extra-curricular activities?
No, as a placement is part of your degree. Any placements / internships / industry experience that are part of your degree programme cannot count towards your 50 hours, as they are not extra-curricular. However, if you organised your own internship outside of a placement year (for example, a summer internship) or have taken part in the Micro Internship programme, these hours would count. Both unpaid and paid internships count.
Can I log hours from previous years or do I need to start fresh this year?
You may log hours from previous years as long as they were completed while you were a registered student at the University of Bath. There is no need to start over.
Can I use hours from different types of activities for the 50 hours of extra-curricular activities?
Yes, you can mix and match hours from volunteering, paid employment, and student leadership, as long as they were completed while you were a registered University of Bath student. These activities do not need to be associated with the university, and can be completed externally, for example, part-time employment counts towards your 50 hours.
Does time spent as a Hall Representative count towards the Bath Award?
Yes, Hall Representative roles count under the student leadership category.
Do sporting activities count towards the Bath Award?
Sporting activities can count if they involve student leadership, volunteering, or paid employment. For example, coaching, captaining a team, or running sports clubs would be eligible. Simply participating in a team does not qualify.
Can I use my time spent on the Rotork Community Challenge for my 50 hours of activity?
Yes. This year, as we are in a pilot year for the Bath Award, you are able to log time spent on the Rotork Community Challenge on your Bath Award submission. (Please note, this may change in future years.)
Does attending a conference count towards my 50 hours of extra-curricular activities?
Attendance alone does not count towards your 50 hours. However, if you have contributed in a volunteer or paid capacity through working at the event or held a student leadership role (e.g. chairing the event), it is eligible.
Professional development elements
Are online resources and training provided or do I need to find them myself?
You need to source your own online resources and training, ensuring they align with your personal development goals. LinkedIn Learning resources are a great place to start! We have put together a collection of LinkedIn Learning resources for each capability to make it easier to find relevant content, but you don’t have to use these. If you would like to see what we’ve compiled, go to My Employability Profile, ‘Search skills’, and filter by the relevant capability on the left-hand side. The collections of LinkedIn Learning resources will look like the image shown above.
We have also compiled some recommended online training and article resources, which you may wish to use (although you do not have to). You can find these here:
Do I need to complete one workshop, one online article or resource, and one online training for each capability?
Yes, you’ll need to complete one workshop, one article, and one online training per capability. As you need to complete four capabilities, this totals 12 activities – three for each of your four capabilities.
How do I find endorsed workshops for the Bath Award?

Can I attend online Bath Award workshops while I’m on placement?
Yes, online workshops are available, and more are being added. However, you’re not able to attend in-person workshops remotely.
There isn't an online workshop option available for one of my capabilities, what can I do?
We have multiple in-person and online workshops for all six capabilities throughout this academic year. Unfortunately, if there are no longer workshops available at a time convenient for you, you will need to pause your award participation and register to take part again in 2026-27.
Completing your submission
How do I complete my submission?
You will only be able to see the option to complete your submission when you have logged 50 hours of extra-curricular activity and completed all 12 Professional Development pieces. If you can't see an option to send in your submission, make sure you have logged all of the necessary hours and submitted all of your Professional Development pieces. When you have done this, you will see a button on that says 'Submit your final reflection'.
Can I have an extension to the 1 May deadline?
Unfortunately, we’re not able to extend the deadline for completing your Bath Award submission. As this is a pilot year, and to be fair to all students who are participating, we need all submissions to be complete and with us no later than 11.59pm on 1 May 2026. This may evolve in future years, as we know some students would like to work on their submission for a longer period of time, but for this year the deadline is 1 May and it cannot be extended.
If you’re not able to complete your submission by the deadline, you will be able to enter again next year.
