At the University of Bath, engineering and design sit at the heart of our academic identity and our ambitions for the decade ahead. As we develop Strategy 2036, our framework focused on global excellence, outstanding people, and high-impact research and education, we are seeking to appoint a Dean of the Faculty of Engineering & Design to lead that agenda from the front.

This appointment comes at a pivotal moment. With a new institutional strategy taking shape and significant opportunities ahead in research, education, and global engagement, the Faculty is well positioned for its next phase. What it requires now is the right leader to drive it forward.

About the Faculty

The Faculty of Engineering & Design is one of Bath's largest and most distinguished academic communities, comprising four top-performing departments: Architecture & Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electronic & Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. It is home to approximately 3000 students and over 300 education and research staff, with student entry standards among the highest in the UK.

The Faculty conducts high-quality research to advance engineering and address the environmental, social, and industrial challenges our world faces. 69色情片 activity is organised around three large-scale themes: digital, health, and sustainability, delivered through a network of well-resourced interdisciplinary centres and institutes.

These include the Institute for Advanced Automotive Propulsion Systems (IAAPS) at the Bristol and Bath Science Park, alongside centres specialising in bioengineering, climate adaptation, sustainable energy, and advanced manufacturing. The Faculty's research approach is deliberately challenge-led and collaborative, producing work with real-world impact across industry, government, and society.

About the Role

As Dean you will hold three distinct and equally important leadership responsibilities:

 1. Faculty Leader.鈥痀ou will set direction, shape culture, and drive performance. This means raising research quality and impact, building a compelling and diverse educational offer, championing commercialisation and innovation, and ensuring the Faculty is an environment in which exceptional people do their best work.
 2. Academic Executive.鈥疻orking closely with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost, you will lead strategic planning, budget setting, student number targets, and KPI delivery, with direct accountability for the Faculty's financial sustainability and operational performance.
 3. Institutional Leader.鈥痀ou will sit on the University Executive Board from day one, contributing to Bath's wider institutional strategy and policy. This role extends well beyond the Faculty, and we are looking for a Dean who is genuinely energised by that broader institutional responsibility.

Key priorities will include:

 • Developing a compelling and distinctive educational offer, attracting and inspiring a diverse student community
 • Enhancing research performance, interdisciplinary collaboration, and commercialisation
 • Growing global engagement, partnerships, and transnational education activity
 • Strengthening the Faculty's culture, supporting staff, enabling high performance, and championing equality, diversity and inclusion
 • Ensuring strong financial management and maximising new income streams
 • Leading strategic planning, operational delivery, and cross-University collaboration at scale

This appointment carries a genuine mandate to lead. The University will set the strategic direction and values, and then empower you, as Dean, to deliver, with the trust, autonomy, and institutional backing to make bold decisions and drive meaningful change at pace.

About You

You will:

 • bring academic and/or professional qualifications and relevant experience in a discipline appropriate to the Faculty, with the personal authority and credibility to lead a top-performing engineering community.
 • have a proven record of leadership and management in a higher education environment, with the ability to motivate, develop, and performance-manage academic and professional staff. Your style will be open, inclusive, and collaborative, earning trust at all levels of the organisation.
 • be an exceptional communicator, with the confidence and interpersonal range to engage effectively with students, academic colleagues, senior leaders, and external partners, supported by strong written, negotiation, and presentation skills.
 • have a track record of leading change, managing complex resources, and making strategic decisions that deliver results, alongside a sound understanding of the national and international higher education landscape.
 • have experience of cross-disciplinary working and engagement with professional bodies would be an advantage. Above all, you will bring the leadership character and cultural conviction to build an environment in which people and performance genuinely thrive.

Why Bath?

We are a distinctive institution: compact, campus-based, and genuinely cohesive. It is a place where leaders can see strategy become reality, and where the relationships between academic and professional communities are substantive rather than merely formal. You will join at a moment of genuine strategic momentum, working alongside a Vice-Chancellor who is an engineer and who understands this Faculty, a Provost who is deeply invested in Faculty performance, and a senior leadership team committed to excellence. This is a role with real autonomy. You will be trusted to lead, empowered to act, and supported to succeed.

What we can offer you

 • a very generous employer contributory pension scheme
 • generous annual leave allowance with an additional 5 discretionary days so that you can enjoy a positive work-life balance.
 • we are a family-friendly University and with an increasingly agile workforce, are open to flexible working arrangements.
 • an excellent reward package that recognises the talents of our diverse workforce
 • a wide range of personal and professional development opportunities
 • several support options available for new and existing staff to help with the cost of some immigration expenses which you may be eligible for: Relocation allowance, Visa Reimbursement, and Interest-Free Loan.

Equal Opportunity

We aim to be an inclusive university, where difference is celebrated, respected and encouraged. We have an excellent international reputation with staff from over 60 different nations and have made a positive commitment towards gender equality and intersectionality receiving a Silver Athena SWAN award. We truly believe that diversity of experience, perspectives, and backgrounds will lead to a better environment for our employees and students, so we encourage applications from all genders, backgrounds, and communities, particularly from under-represented groups, and value the positive impact that will have on our teams.

We are very proud to be an autism-friendly university and are an accredited Disability Confident Leader; committed to building disability confidence and supporting disabled staff.

<![CDATA[Postdoctoral 69色情片 Associate (SS13438)]]> /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=SS13438 /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=SS13438 The Tooke Lab () is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral 69色情片 Associate to work on a highly interdisciplinary project addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Klebsiella pneumoniae

The position is offered on a 24-month contract with the potential to extend for an additional 12-months. Blended and flexible working arrangements will be considered. The position is available to start as soon as possible.

Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a huge burden to both global health and economy. Klebsiella pneumoniae (Kp) is a top 3 pathogen for AMR related deaths worldwide and classed as critical priority for which new antibiotics are urgently required (WHO).

β-Lactams, the most prescribed antibiotic class worldwide, kill bacteria by binding and inhibiting Penicillin Binding Proteins (PBPs). β-Lactam resistance can be conferred by β-lactamases (BLAs), enzymes evolutionarily related to PBPs that inactivate the antibiotics, threatening their continued clinical efficacy.

The Tooke Lab aims to elucidate the molecular mechanisms governing PBP and BLA function, inhibition, and resistance evolution in K. pneumoniae. We adopt an integrated approach spanning microbiology, biochemistry, structural biology, and biomolecular simulation, with access to state-of-the-art structural methods, including time-resolved crystallography at X-ray free-electron lasers (XFELs).

This role offers exceptional training at the interface of experimental and computational biology, within a supportive and collaborative research environment.

This project is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary, combining:

 • Molecular biology (cloning, generating plasmid constructs for recombinant protein expression)
 • Microbiology (MIC determination and checkerboard assays)
 • Biochemistry (protein purification and enzyme kinetics)
 • Structural biology (primarily protein crystallography (including time-resolved crystallography at XFELS) with the additional potential for some cryo-EM on suitable targets.)
 • Computational chemistry (biomolecular simulation)

To 1) Identify how inhibitors optimally bind to PBP/BLA targets. And 2) Understand (and predict) resistance determinants (BLA production, BLA evolution and the further possibility for PBP modifications contributing to reductions in antibiotic susceptibility and resistance).

About you

The successful candidate should possess:

 • PhD in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemical Biology, Chemistry or a closely related discipline
 • Demonstrated expertise with recombinant protein expression, purification and crystallisation.
 • Hands-on experience with X-ray crystallography from crystals through to data collection and data processing.
 • Proficiency and familiarity with biomolecular simulations (Molecular dynamics or higher-level calculations) of proteins in AMBER (or another similar simulations package).
 • Active interest in AMR, antibiotic drug discovery and pathogen biology research.

Additional expectations:

 • Strong organisational, communication, and teamwork skills
 • Ability to work independently and solve problems proactively
 • Willingness to supervise and train junior lab members
 • Some laboratory management responsibilities will be included

Further Information

As a member of 69色情片 Staff at the University of Bath, you will be encouraged to take up a minimum of 10 days professional development pro rata per year.

For informal queries please contact Dr Catherine Tooke at clt81@bath.ac.uk.

A lower grade offer may be made (Grade 6) with comparable reduction in responsibilities and amendment in job title to 69色情片 Assistant, if a suitable applicant cannot be found to fill the Grade 7 position. Applicants will need to be within six months of their course completion date and will be promoted to 69色情片 Associate once their PhD has been awarded.

Join our Workforce Development Team and help the University succeed through the excellence of its people. You’ll provide high-quality, proactive administration that keeps our services running efficiently and adapting to change. Your specialist focus will be the Academic Career Progression system supporting senior managers and academic colleagues through probation and promotion processes — while also collaborating across the team on projects and service improvement.

Day-to-day, you’ll prepare papers for committee meetings, collate and validate information, maintain accurate digital and physical records, attend meetings to capture outcomes, and communicate decisions clearly and professionally. You’ll manage enquiries from staff and managers, liaise with external stakeholders where needed, and help us deliver a smooth, well-governed process.

You’ll also support broader workforce development activity: helping organise development programmes and events, updating web pages, monitoring shared inboxes, and contributing to projects (for example, staff surveys or systems changes). Confident with data, you’ll assist with extracting information from HR systems and producing straightforward statistical reports.

This is a busy, varied role that will suit someone who enjoys juggling deadlines, takes pride in accuracy, and communicates with tact and clarity at all levels. We offer a genuinely hybrid set-up; you’ll have significant discretion over where you work on any given day, balancing on-campus needs with focused time at home to get things done.

Essential

 • Strong administrative experience in a busy, deadline-driven environment, with excellent organisation, accuracy and attention to detail.
 • Confident communicator (written and verbal) who can draft clear papers, take concise notes, and provide helpful guidance to colleagues at all levels.
 • Customer-focused, collaborative approach; able to build positive relationships and handle sensitive information with discretion.
 • Good digital skills: MS Word, Excel, email and web editing; comfortable working with databases/HR systems and producing basic statistical reports.
 • Awareness of good data management practice (e.g., Data Protection/FoI).

Desirable

 • Experience in a general or specialist HR environment.
 • Experience organising and supporting events; using database/reporting tools.

What you’ll demonstrate

 • Commitment to high standards, inclusivity, and great service; a growth mindset and willingness to learn; resilience under pressure and changing priorities.

We have also developed course costing information from the TRAC data, which is of growing importance to the University.

Your role will involve:

Experience of TRAC alongside an interest in the Higher Education sector and how Universities are funded is desirable.

<![CDATA[69色情片 Associate (Smarter Robot Bodies) (KP13404)]]> /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=KP13404 /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=KP13404 About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Mechanical Engineering as a 69色情片 Associate to work on the cutting-edge project "New Analytical Framework: Developing Dexterous Manipulators".

Funded by the Advanced 69色情片 and Invention Agency (ARIA) through the groundbreaking opportunity space. This project aims to unlock a step-change in robotic capabilities.

You will work in an interdisciplinary team to develop novel analytical frameworks that bridge the gap between soft robotic manipulators and their intelligence.

The project specifically addresses the challenge of "Robot Dexterity" by creating mathematical models and AI-based strategies that allow soft robotic manipulators to achieve human-level dexterity. You will be part of a dynamic team of "Creators" within the ARIA ecosystem, collaborating to transform how soft robots interact with the physical world.

A core focus of this role is using advanced mathematics and data analytics to "see inside" the robot. You will use data to uncover the hidden physics and internal states of complex manipulator bodies, moving beyond black-box approaches to develop transparent, physics-informed models that explain why the robot moves the way it does.

Key responsibilities will include:

 • Developing rigorous mathematical models for the complex, non-linear dynamics and underlying physics of soft robotic manipulators.
 • Utilising machine learning to interpret sensor data, inferring internal physical states and structural behaviours that are not directly observable.
 • Creating data-driven models that bridge the gap between theoretical physics and real-world robot performance.
 • Implementing AI control strategies that leverage this deep physical understanding to achieve superior dexterity and adaptability.
 • Designing and conducting experiments to validate the new models and findings on physical robotic hardware.
 • Collaborating with external partners and other ARIA Creators to integrate hardware and software solutions.

We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with a strong background in AI, Mathematics, and Robotics. You should possess a creative approach to problem-solving and a passion for using data to decode physical reality.

 • A PhD (or be close to completion) in Robotics, Control Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
 • Strong expertise in analytical modelling of dynamic systems and physical interactions. Experience in using data analysis to identify system parameters or model physical phenomena.
 • Knowledge of soft robotics, continuum robots, or flexible manipulators.
 • Excellent programming skills (e.g., Python, C++, MATLAB).
 • A strong publication record in reputable journals or conferences.

Further Information

This is a full time (36.5 hours per week) position offered on a fixed term basis until 28 February 2028.
