Context
Two research projects are being established to support evaluating attainment.
- Collaboration with the UniConnect partnership (Wessex Inspiration Network) to evaluate a Year 9 literacy skills tutoring programme.
- Longitudinal tracking of widening access participants and a non-random comparison group to review University of Bath Year 1 attainment.
Evaluation Questions
- Does the Year 9 tutoring programme improve pupils' literacy skills?
- Does the Year 9 tutoring programme increase pupils' sense of self-efficacy and motivation?
- How was the Year 9 tutoring experience for student workers? Do they feel supported and equipped to deliver the sessions?
- Are students who complete a University of Bath Widening Access programme more likely to achieve better Year 1 on-course attainment?
Methodology
September 2026 publication deadline:
- Pre- and post- literacy assessment of pupils participating in Year 9 tutoring programme
- Pre- and post- survey analysis of pupils participating in Year 9 tutoring programme
- Pre- and post- survey analysis of student tutors from Year 9 tutoring programme
- Post- survey analysis of teachers from participating school
September 2027 publication deadline:
- Analysis of Widening Access activities within , matched to University of Bath records to review Year 1 attainment
- Non-random comparison groups to review Year 1 attainment who received and did not receive a Widening Access intervention
